It’s St. Patrick’s Day – Think “Green” Marketing

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we thought it fitting to talk about the trend that is sweeping through the marketing world, Going Green.

Our research indicates that eco-friendly brands that are first out-of-the-gate in their industries have the opportunity to take leadership positions among others in their space. Implementing a green campaign can give brands a competitive edge and positive consumer perception – all while helping the environment. Here are examples of “Green Advertising Campaigns” that we like.

360 VODKA

360 Vodka employs an eco-friendly green philosophy throughout all development, packaging and marketing. The bottle is made from 85% recycled glass bottle and label, and has a cork recycling with donation program. The gift packaging came equipped with a green lifestyle and recipe guide, and a CFL bulb. Even their outdoor signage was biodegradable. The product achieved national distribution in all 50 states in less than nine months. 360 Vodka was recognized as the nation’s fastest growing new vodka. It has won 15 advertising awards and the line has been extended to 9 flavors.

PRIUS

With rising gas prices, Toyota created one of the most profitable and sensible eco-friendly vehicles in history. With hundreds of thousands of cars sold, the Prius was the first mass-produced hybrid gas-electric vehicle, introduced in 2000. When compared to the average car, the Prius has saved American consumers more than an estimated 881 million gallons of gas, $2.19 billion in fuel costs, and 12.4 million tons of CO2 emissions, according to Toyota.

DELL

Although we’re Mac fans, we can’t help but applaud Dell for their going green efforts. Dell’s green-strategy hopes to reduce total emissions by 40% by 2015, building computers that use 25% less energy and implement a massive recycling and reusing program. This not only helps the environment but also helps Dell make more “green”.
